Tension development length of deformed bars per ACI 318-19 Eq. 25.4.2.4a:
ℓd = (3/40) · (fy / (λ√f'c)) · (ψtψeψsψg) / ((cb+Ktr)/db) · db
- The confinement term (cb+Ktr)/db is capped at 2.5.
- √f'c is limited to 100 psi (f'c credit caps near 10,000 psi).
- ψt·ψe need not exceed 1.7.
- ψs = 0.8 for #6 and smaller, 1.0 for #7 and larger; ψg = 1.0 / 1.15 / 1.3 for Gr 60 / 80 / 100.
- Floor: ℓd ≥ 12 in (§25.4.2.1).
Reference: ACI 318-19 §25.4.2. This is the tension development length for straight deformed bars; hooked/headed bars, compression development, and splices use separate provisions.
